This week, I’d like to introduce you to the wonderful sponsors of the Music Therapy Maven. Today, meet Margie La Bella from MusicTherapyTunes.com. In addition to being a board-certified music therapist, Margie is an award-winning singer and songwriter of children’s songs. Through Music Therapy Tunes, you can access her original songs, as well as lesson plans and songwriting tips. Welcome Margie!
Hi Folks,
My name is Margie La Bella and I’ve been doing music therapy with children for the past twenty-five years. I became a music therapist because I had experienced music so positively and powerfully in my own life that I wanted to give that same possibility…that same tool to other kids.
In 1982 B.C. (before computers) I went to College Misericordia, then did my internship with kids and adolescents before making my way to preschool. Most–but not all–of the kids at my job have been quite young.
Anyway, I’ve been writing music since I was a kid. I wrote quite a lot for my internship and job in the efforts to help my kids improve their expressive and receptive language skills, and auditory processing abilities, social skills etc. My dream was to create a music therapy CD and I was blessed with enough original material to come up with four!
So come on over to musictherapytunes.com and give them a listen. There’s a free mp3 song from the “Sing!” CD available to download. There are nearly 100 lesson plans to read and use in your own practice. When you add the CD lyrics, chords and benefits in–there’s about 150 lesson plans in all.
There are several blog topics up on the site. I’d also like to get something going on blogspot soon! Future plans also include downloadable CD albums and maybe individual track downloads. There is currently an option to select 12 songs of your own choosing and order a custom CD. I’ll be putting up a new free mp3 song soon as well.
In addition, I’d like to hear from you! I’d really like to expand the lesson plans page and I’m hoping that, if you’re a music therapist, you’ll send in some of your favorites. Don’t worry about the format. Just send it in and I’ll post it with full credit to you.
My hope is that music therapists, students, parents, teachers and others will find the info on my site interesting, reader-friendly, and helpful.
